With barely weeks to the elections in Abuja, a foundational member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the nation’s capital, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Micah Yohanna Jiba, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The immediate past member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives yesterday submitted his resignation letter to PDP executives at the Garki Ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), formally ending a political affiliation that began in 1998.
Citing the PDP’s internal disorder as his primary reason, Jiba declared his intention to contribute his experience to the development of the ruling APC.
“Since 1998, I have been in the PDP. I rose from Garki Ward Councillor to AMAC Chairman, and then to the House of Representatives.
“I think I have done very well. However, after consultation with my people, I have decided to resign. I have discovered that the APC is doing better. We want to identify with the ruling party to contribute our quota.
“The days are changing. PDP was the ruling party, but today it is in opposition and in disarray. People like us, with experience at the local, ward, and national levels, can help the APC progress better. I believe in action, not just words,” he said.
Jiba indicated his political future would remain driven by his constituents, stating he would await their call should any contestable position arise within his new party.
He also expressed confidence in the leadership of AMAC Chairman Christopher Maikalangu and President Bola Tinubu.
“Maikalangu has touched the lives of people in AMAC, and we are also seeing that Mr President is doing his best. The remaining work, God will complete it for him. So we are also going to contribute our quota,” he said.
While receiving the resignation letter, the PDP Chairman for Garki Ward, Hon. Robo Adamu, expressed sadness over the departure.
“We regret that Hon Jiba is leaving the party. He has contributed a lot to the development of the PDP in Garki Ward, AMAC, and the FCT. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” he said.
