The Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba in Kogi State has said that it will be graduating a total of 26,160 students in its 7th combined convocation slated for Saturday 24th January, 2026.

The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, who declared this during the pre-convocation press conference yesterday at the university auditorium in Anyigba, noted that the number consist of 178 first class, 5,653 second class upper division,  15,266 second class lower , 4,891 third class and 172 graduating with pass.

According to Prof. Tenuche, the total number of graduands per session are; 2020/2021 – 4,884 2021/2022 – 4,151 2022/2023 – 4,253 2023/2024 – 7,548 2024/2025 – 5,324

Mrs Tenuche who is in her last year as the Vice Chancellor of the Ivory tower, noted that her tenure recorded serious achievements in the areas of campus security, improvement in academic standard, and return of MBBS after 12 year ban.

According to her, she was able to overcome the initial challenges on assumption of duty with the support of government, management and staff of the University.

“When I assumed office in April 2020, initially in an acting capacity and subsequently as the substantive Vice-Chancellor, I did so with a deep sense of responsibility, fully aware of the enormity of the challenges before us.”

She noted that as the first female Vice-Chancellor in the 25-year history of this University, her appointment came at a defining moment.

“At the time, the University was grappling with serious security concerns, cult related violence, loss of lives and need for additional infrastructural facilities. Many believed the situation was overwhelming.

“With the strong backing of the then Visitor, His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Adoza Bello (CON) and my institutional memory arising from my being a pioneer staff and having served three times as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, we were able to turn things around positively, to the glory of Almighty Allah. We identified challenges not as limitations but as opportunities for reform.

“Our administration anchored its policies on three strategic pillars:

Campus security, responsible work ethics and institutional discipline, welfare of staff and students.

These pillars have consistently guided our decisions and actions from 2020 to date.”

She noted that one of the most urgent interventions of her administration, was campus security, saying that at the time of her assumption, cult clashes and insecurity had created fear and instability on Campus.

“We adopted a multi-agency security framework involving the Nigeria Police, the military, local vigilante groups, and private security outfits. Continuous patrols were introduced, and zero tolerance for cultism was enforced. We launched and Sustained sensitization and moral re-orientation programmes across Faculties.

” I am pleased to state as a matter of public record that since 2020, not a single gunshot has been recorded on our campus. Peace, confidence, and stability were fully restored and sustained.

“With security restored, our administration decisively addressed academic and social misconduct. Examination malpractice, academic fraud, indecent dressing, and unethical practices were addressed heads-on. Class representatives that served as middlemen between students and erring lecturers were eliminated, reinforcing transparency and integrity. We redirected student energy toward productive engagement.

“Sporting facilities were revitalized, leading to our emergence as champions of the Higher Institutions Football League in 2022. This shot Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba into limelight in the Comity of Universities as it was the first time a state University was winning the title,” she said.
