Former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Rufai Durotoye, has petitioned Osun State Commissioner of Police over alleged threat to life.
The petition written by Kehinde Adesiyan, sighted by LEADERSHIP Weekend in Osogbo on Friday, pleaded with the Commissioner of Police to set up a discrete investigation into the matter to avoid unexpected homicide in Osun State.
Durotoye in the petition alleged that apart from visits to his residence twice, he also received anonymous calls from people who threatened to take his life if he fails to retract his statement on alleged lopsidedness in infrastructure distribution in the state by Adeleke’s administration.
The US-based Mathematician who also aspired to become APC candidate in the August 8 governorship election had granted an interview two months ago where he berated the administration of Governor Adeleke over alleged lopsided development of infrastructure in Osun State with a view to readjust his style in the interest of Osun State.
The petition read in part, “Our Client is making this save his soul call so that all those that are invited for questioning with a view to give assurance that no lives will be lost and especially the life of our highly cherished client who is a bread winner to many people.”
Speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend on Friday, Durotoye who is currently abroad, said apart from calls threatening his life, assassins had allegedly visited his residence in Osogbo and left a message that he should retract his statement on the governor’s style of administration or face the music.
He noted that as a politician and citizen of Osun State he has not done anything wrong by expressing his views on issues that concern his state, adding that such criticism is meant to assist the government in a civilised world.
