The deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, has said that all his completed constituency projects are intact, adding that those not yet completed had not been abandoned.
Kalu, who represents Bende federal constituency, stated this on Friday while speaking with journalists at his Bende country home in Abia State. He dismissed the assertion that some portions of the roads he attracted had either failed or been abandoned by the contractors.
He noted that contracts for the road projects were not only awarded to reputable construction firms but the jobs were also executed according to guidelines and specifications under strict supervision.
He argued that if there are any minor defects, which is natural, there had been blown out of proportion by his detractors, assuring that such defects would be addressed immediately.
Kalu used the forum to restate his commitment to attracting democracy dividends to not only the constituency or the state but to the entire South East zone in general.
The speaker stressed the need for the creation of an additional state in the zone, maintaining that the addition would bring the zone at par with others in terms of number of states.
On his future political ambition as the 2027 general election approaches, the spokesman for the House during the 9th National Assembly, explained that it would be determined by the ruling party.
The deputy speaker also affirmed that he had been under pressure to declare for the governorship seat in 2027 as well as denied blocking the governor, Alex Otti from defecting from Labour Party to the APC.
According to him, contrary to that belief, he was one of those who began the call on Otti to join the APC as the move would attract more dividends of democracy to the state and the people.
”He was one of those that strengthened the party in this state, and I know that if he joins, it will open more doors for the people, whether people like it or not. I felt Abia is isolated or left outside,” he said.
