Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria ahead of the anticipated defection of Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the ruling party.
Ganduje arrived in Abuja at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday aboard a British Airways flight from London, according to a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba.
The statement said Ganduje is expected to proceed to Kano later in the day to commence a series of political engagements in the state. He disclosed that the former APC national chairman “is scheduled to participate in the APC’s electronic registration of members, a programme he initiated during his tenure as national chairman of the party.”
The statement further noted that Ganduje is also expected to play a prominent role in activities surrounding the planned reception of Governor Yusuf, who is set to formally defect to the APC.
“The developments are seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen party structures and consolidate recent political realignments within the state,” Garba said.
