A Wuse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has sentenced two brothers, Adamu and Rabiu Ibrahim, to two months imprisonment each for stealing a cellphone in a mosque.
The Magistrate, Olumide Bamisile, convicted and sentenced them with an option of N30,000 fine each.
He, however, warned the convicts to desist from committing crimes and behave well.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police charged the brothers with joint act and theft, and they pleaded guilty.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Donatus Abah, told the court that the complainant, Yusuf Aliyu, reported the matter to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police commissioner on January 2, 2026.
Abah said that the complainant went to Annur Mosque in Maitama, Abuja, to pray, where Adamu and Rabiu jointly stole his Galaxy Fold 4 from his pocket.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution added that during police investigations, the cellphone was recovered from Adamu and Rabiu and returned to the owner.
Following their guilty plea, the convicts told the court that they intended to sell the cellphone before they were caught.
They, however, prayed for leniency and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
