Jigawa State government, through the State Local Government Service Commission, promoted 1,682 workers and organised 163 workshops and seminars in 2025.

The executive chairman of the commission, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd), revealed this during a chat with journalists on the commission’s 2025 scorecard.

He said the promotions were part of Governor Malam Umar Namadi administration’s policy on workers’ welfare and entitlements, aimed at enhancing effective public service delivery.

DIG Ringim added that as the state government embarked on various reforms to improve public service, significant emphasis was also placed on staff training to strengthen professionalism, efficiency, and institutional capacity at the grassroots level.

“Civil servants are the engine room for implementing any government policy. The prospect of achieving meaningful reform lies in the quality of manpower and enabling working environment provided to them,” he stated.

“In the year under review, 628 staff retired from active service across the 27 local government councils, while 72 died in service, bringing the total number of those who exited service to 704.”

He further revealed that the commission has introduced several measures to ensure that frequent staff departures do not affect the ongoing reforms. These measures include adopting Information Technology (IT) for efficiency, redeploying staff, and conducting new recruitments.

DIG Bala added that the commission also took disciplinary action against staff found wanting in diligence or in breach of other public service rules.

He reiterated the commission’s commitment to repositioning local government staff through training and capacity building, enabling them to align with the current transformation in the state.
