The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs during intelligence-led operations across the state.
Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the operations were carried out in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained intelligence-driven patrols and visibility policing.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Fagge Police Division intercepted a tricycle at the Triumph Roundabout on January 25, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., during a surveillance patrol. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa concealed in two sacks.
Two suspects, identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both males from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In a separate operation on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m., the Command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) carried out raids on identified black spots within the Kano metropolitan area. The operation resulted in the arrest of two other suspects, Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25.
Items recovered from the suspects included 40 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solution, half a roll of suspected cannabis, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, assuring the public of sustained efforts to ensure safety and security across Kano State.
