The Okumagbe-in-Council and the National Burial Committee have announced the programme of events for the burial rites of His Royal Majesty, Dr George Oshiapi Egabor, and the Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom.
A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the chairman, Media and Publicity of the National Burial Committee, Tony Akiotu, disclosed that the activities would commence on February 4, 2026, with a memorial mass and the signing of the condolence register at the Royal Palace in Agenebode.
According to the statement, the Uwanno Kingdom, over which the late monarch presided, is located in Etsako East local government area of Edo State, with its headquarters in Agenebode.
He added that this would be followed on February 5, 2026, by a reception and celebration of life in honour of the late monarch at the Omoaze Primary School, Agenebode.
The statement noted that the four-day burial programme will feature rich cultural displays, including traditional dances and masquerade performances from the four ruling houses of the Uwanno Kingdom, showcasing the kingdom’s heritage and royal customs.
Dr George Oshiapi Egabor, who passed away in December 2025 at the age of 84, was an accomplished accountant and a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN). He ascended the throne in 2003 and reigned as the Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom until 2025.
The burial rites are expected to attract traditional rulers, dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers from within and outside Edo State, who will gather to honour the late monarch’s legacy.
