Six passengers were injured when a Volkswagen commercial bus flipped on its side on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge after its brakes failed.

The incident occurred on the Adekunle corridor toward Iyana-Oworonsoki, involving a fully loaded bus (KRD 436 XF) carrying passengers and household goods. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Among the injured were two men and four women, with one of them suffering a serious injury.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers at the scene helped extricate the victims from the wreckage of the vehicle.

Good Samaritans rushed four injured passengers to a nearby hospital. Police from Adekunle Division took one man with multiple fractures to another facility.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, extended profound sympathies to the injured passengers and their families, while earnestly wishing them a speedy and full recuperation.

He further utilised the occasion to issue a firm caution to the motoring public particularly commercial transport operators to desist from the perilous practice of vehicle overloading and to accord utmost priority to regular mechanical assessments, with specific emphasis on braking systems prior to embarking on journeys within or beyond the confines of Lagos State.

Giwa reaffirmed the Lagos State government’s resolute commitment to the preservation of lives and property across its road networks, underscoring that acts of avoidable negligence and mechanical irresponsibility will continue to attract stringent regulatory sanctions.
