President Bola Tinubu has said that Allah alone determines what a human being will become, urging Nigerians to pray for the country to live in harmony, happiness and faith.
The President stated this on Friday in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, shortly after performing the Umrah pilgrimage, also known as the Lesser Hajj.
Tinubu, who described the spiritual exercise as fulfilling, said his visit was significant not only for him personally but also for Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists after the pilgrimage, he said, “I feel good, I feel fulfilled. It’s a spiritual thing for me and the country, Nigeria. I’m grateful to Allah that I’ve been able to have a good umrah.”
When asked about the significance of his visit to Saudi Arabia, particularly as he prepares for another presidential election after visiting the country ahead of the 2027 polls, Tinubu said his prayers were centred on the country and its people.
He said, “It’s very, very significant. I believe the love of the people, the commitment to the job, and the visible commitment to that Allah’s wish, which is what must prevail.
“And there’s no other God but Allah, and He is the only one who can define a human being, what he will be, and what he will become. We just pray for our nation. We pray for everyone to live in harmony, happiness, and faith in God Almighty.”
LEADERSHIP reports that Tinubu departed Abuja on Thursday, October 29, 2026, for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah.
The Lesser Hajj is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be undertaken at any time of the year, unlike the annual Hajj, which takes place during a specific period in the Islamic calendar.
