The Legislative Writers Forum has strongly condemned recent threats by the Plateau Youths Council (PYC) to initiate a recall of Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, describing the move as baseless and inconsequential.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the President of the Forum, Comrade Daniel Terwase, said public office holders are often overwhelmed by requests for financial assistance shortly after assuming office, regardless of whether they have the capacity to meet such demands.
According to the statement, the primary responsibility of a senator is lawmaking at the National Assembly, not the execution of constituency projects or the provision of personal financial support. However, constituents frequently ignore this distinction and continue to pressure elected officials for assistance.
The Forum noted that when such requests are declined, public officers are often subjected to coordinated smear campaigns aimed at discrediting them in the public eye.
Comrade Terwase said this pattern was evident in the PYC’s recent threat to recall Senator Mwadkon, adding that the group failed to present any clear or compelling reasons for its action. Instead, the statement described the PYC’s claims as incoherent and unsupported by facts.
The Forum further alleged that the dissatisfaction stemmed from the senator’s refusal to provide cash handouts, stressing that Senator Mwadkon believes in sustainable empowerment rather than short-term financial inducements.
Describing the recall threat as “dead on arrival”, the Forum maintained that Senator Mwadkon remains committed to delivering meaningful democratic dividends to the people of Plateau North Senatorial District and will not be distracted by what it termed frivolous and malicious campaigns.
