The Imo Diaspora Support for Governor Hope Uzodimma has extended warm felicitations to a former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Godson Ohakim, following his conferment with the Grand Service Star of Imo State (GSSI) by the Imo State government.

The honour was conferred as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee of Imo State. In celebration of the state’s 50th anniversary, the government unveiled a list of eminent personalities selected for the Imo State @ 50 Star Honours, in recognition of their exceptional service, enduring legacies, and outstanding contributions to the growth, governance, culture, and image of the state.

The GSSI is one of the highest honours bestowed by the Imo State Government and is reserved for individuals whose contributions have significantly advanced the social, economic, and political development of the state.

In a statement released from Finland, the convener and coordinator of the Imo Diaspora Support group, Chief Dr. Ochiagha Nnanna Okere, described Dr. Ohakim as a distinguished leader deserving of the prestigious recognition.

“We join his family, friends, and political associates, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, and the Imo State Government in honouring this illustrious son and exemplary leader,” Okere said. “We are proud of his political trajectory and achievements. May God continue to bless him with wisdom, strength, and grace as he continues to mentor others and serve humanity.”

Dr. Okere, a Finland-trained conflict management expert, praised Ohakim’s visionary leadership and enduring contributions to the development of Imo State during his tenure as governor. He particularly highlighted the former governor’s Clean and Green Initiative, which transformed Owerri into what was widely regarded as Nigeria’s cleanest capital city, a legacy he noted remains fondly remembered by Ndi Imo.

He further commended Ohakim’s bold reforms, infrastructure development, and commitment to inclusive governance, describing them as hallmarks of a leader whose influence continues to inspire future generations.

He was also described by Okere as “a big masquerade, a great thinker, a visionary leader, and a political strategist,” noting that Ohakim remains a valuable asset not only to Imo State but to humanity at large.

Chief Okere also acknowledged Dr. Ohakim’s consistent support for the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma since its inception, noting that his backing and contributions have played a role in the state’s progress.

He added that despite what he described as the activities of a few but vocal naysayers allegedly bent on destabilising the state through violence, Governor Uzodimma has continued to deliver impactful leadership, earning broad support among Imo citizens at home and in the diaspora.

The Imo Diaspora Support group wished Chief Ikedi Ohakim continued strength as he mentors and inspires future leaders.
