Newcastle United secured a 2-1 victory over a lacklustre Tottenham Hotspur, leaving manager Frank’s position increasingly precarious.
The Magpies asserted their dominance from the outset, with Joe Willock having an early goal disallowed for a marginal offside following a VAR review. However, Eddie Howe’s side didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock. Malick Thiaw bundled the ball home in first-half stoppage time after his initial header was saved by Guglielmo Vicario.
Tottenham’s dismal evening was compounded by an injury to Wilson Odobert, who was forced off before half-time. Spurs, who have struggled for creativity from open play throughout Frank’s tenure, found an equaliser against the run of play just after the hour mark. Archie Gray converted from a corner after Pape Matar Sarr’s header back across goal.
However, parity was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Anthony Gordon was afforded too much space, allowing him to pick out Ramsey, who fired into the far corner to restore Newcastle’s lead and seal a deserved win.
