The All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Group Council, has dismissed claims that the ruling party is panicking over the use of electronic transmission of election results in the 2027 polls.
The director-general of the APC Support Group Council, Hon. Sadiq Abubakar Jikta, stated this while speaking shortly after he inaugurated the APC National Assembly Legislative Aides Support Group (ANALAG) in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Senate on Tuesday approved the electronic transmission of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal, while allowing manual collation to serve as a backup where technology fails.
The development has sparked wild reactions from political observers, some insinuating that the ruling party is afraid of the mandatory electronic transmission of election results.
But, Jikta said it is rather the opposition that is panicking and not APC, stressing that the ruling party was carrying out massive grassroots mobilisations and is prepared to embrace whatever electoral framework the National Assembly put in place.
“APC is not panicking. It is the opposition that are panicking because they feel APC being the party in power will muzzle power with them. No, we are doing everything transparently and that’s why we’re giving a free playing ground for every party to participate.
“You know, in terms of this electronic transmission, it is left for the National Assembly to do their job. And we so far believe in whatever capacity, whatever position National Assembly come up with, we are ready and prepared. The most important is the grassroot and we are concentrating on the grassroot mobilisation and that’s what we are doing,” he said.
Jikta also said the emergence of more support groups such as ANALAG and gale of defections into the ruling party have made APC formidable for forthcoming electoral contests.
“This is an added advantage to APC, because we need more members and we need groups like this. And if we see groups like this coming up, we know that yes, we are winning and we are doing the right thing and people are ready to work with the APC.
“Just like you see governors decamping to the APC that’s how we see groups every day and we are happy whenever we are invited to inaugurate groups like this. And so it shows that yes, APC is really out for the game this time around in 2027.
“The next line of action is, you know, support group mainly is mobilisation. So there are a series of activities for mobilisation for 2027. So ANALAG as a group have just been inducted into the mobilisation programme. So we will all come up to draw up a 2027 agenda together.
Also speaking, the national coordinator of ANALAG, Ayoola Fakunle, said the group is committed to working for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and other candidates of APC, especially their principals.
“National Assembly Legislative Aides is everywhere you go so, we are in each polling unit. So, we are mobilising people with their PVC. We encourage people to go and get their PVCs.
“The purpose is to make sure that our principals, we will support them for their re-election, and support our dear president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former senator.
“He’s wearing two caps; a former senator and now our president, father of the nation. So, we are going all out for him to make sure we secure that four years and also our principals from various states, local governments, and state assemblies.
“We have our members everywhere currently. So, we don’t have fear. Our group is so unique. It’s not as if because we are preparing for election, then we start forming this group. It’s already in existence,” she added.
