A group, Drug Free World Africa, has commended the Nigerian Army’s 81 Division for investigating allegations of military protection of drug peddlers in parts of Lagos State.
In a statement, the organisation’s country representative, Dr Lina Okereke, praised the move as a reflection of the army’s professionalism and commitment to accountability.
Okereke said drug abuse remains a serious threat to society, fuelling crime, insecurity and mental illness while undermining community development.
Any attempt to shield drug traffickers weakens the fight against this menace and endangers the future of young people and the country, he said.
Okereke said his group has consistently advocated for a drug-free environment through public education, grassroots sensitisation and stakeholder engagement.
The organisation’s efforts aim to prevent drug abuse and promote awareness about its dangers, he added.
Okereke said, “The Nigerian Army’s decision to investigate the allegations has sent a clear message that the fight against drugs will be uncompromising and free of institutional protection. Drug Free World Africa applauds the Army’s commitment to transparency and internal discipline.”
The group called on all security agencies, community leaders and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in ensuring a drug-free, safe, and healthy society for all Nigerians. By working together, Nigeria can overcome the challenges posed by drug abuse and build a brighter future for its citizens.
Drug Free World Africa reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against drug abuse, emphasising prevention, awareness and integrity as critical tools in this struggle.
