Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade have killed two suspected terrorists and recovered arms during a security operation in Ondo State.

The operation was conducted on Saturday, February 14, 2026, along the Akunu–Auga Road, following credible intelligence about the movement of suspected criminals in the area.

In a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Irabor Njoka, and obtained from the Nigerian Army’s official X account on Monday, the troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Auga were said to have swiftly mobilised to intercept the suspects.

The Army stated that the encounter resulted in a gun duel between the troops and the armed men.

According to the statement, the soldiers overpowered the suspects during the exchange of fire, killing two of them, while others escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, as well as local vigilantes.

Recovered items from the scene include one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and ₦39,000, among other personal belongings.

The Brigade noted that the operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restricting criminal activities and protecting lives and property across Ondo State.

It added that troops would continue clearance operations, intensify patrols along identified flashpoints, and strengthen partnerships with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace in the state.

The Army also called on residents to provide timely and credible information, emphasising that public support is crucial in the fight against criminal elements.

The incident comes amid ongoing security efforts nationwide.

In a related development, the Ondo State Security Network Agency recently arrested at least 95 suspected criminals across the state’s 18 local government areas for offences including kidnapping, theft, burglary, and illegal mining, according to the state commander.
