Agent Claims Klopp Snubbed Man Utd, Chelsea After Anfield Exit

Jürgen Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, has sensationally claimed that both Manchester United and Chelsea made approaches for the former Liverpool manager after his departure from Anfield.

Kosicke, speaking to Transfermarkt, also suggested the 58-year-old German could have taken charge of the England or United States national teams.

However, both Manchester United and Chelsea have strongly denied making any such approaches to Klopp or his representatives, according to the Press Association.

Klopp, who spent nine years at Liverpool before moving to his current role as Head of Global Football with Red Bull, had previously stated his unwillingness to manage another English club. Kosicke reiterated this, saying: “Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jürgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England.”

The agent also confirmed that the United States approached Klopp before appointing Mauricio Pochettino in September 2024, and the Football Association considered him before naming Thomas Tuchel as Gareth Southgate’s successor in January 2025. The FA has been contacted for comment.

Despite these alleged offers, Klopp appears content in his current position. He stated last October that he doesn’t intend to return to management, though he did leave the door open for a potential return to Liverpool: “I said I will never coach a different team in England. So that means if [Klopp returns] it’s Liverpool. So yeah, theoretically it’s possible.” He added that he doesn’t miss the day-to-day aspects of coaching.
