The Courier and Logistics Services Staff Association of Nigeria (CALSSAN) has
appealed to National Assembly for immediate review of the sector’s policies in line with the best global practices.
The association also decried the bad roads network across the country and called on the federal and state governments to provide good access roads.
According to the association “We believe all arms of governments should see us as as partners in progress and embrace us in social dialogue than the current situation whereby our members are facing daily harassment from all arms of governments.”
CALSSAN, registered by Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, in 2024, also reiterated its challenges, pointed out that illegal levies have continued to be the greatest threat against its bids to sustain alternative employment.
The union demanded immediate intervention of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Lagos State government following the constant harassment and forceful levies by various local government officers.
In a chat with LEADERSHIP, the
general secretary, Emeka Cyril Ekeh noted that “Our aim to create conducive and enjoyable livelihood have been facing challenges based on collection of levies which are dipping into the pockets of the members of our association. Our members are constantly being stopped, forcefully made to part with their money each time they cross from the boundary of one area to other, whereby they are working on targets and their earnings are being affected.”
Likewise, in a statement by both the president, Festus Oluwatuyi and general secretary, Emeka Cyril Ekeh, the association is praying for proper renumeration from their employers, good condition of service
And some of the prayers of the union include: remuneration of workers by their employers, good conditions of service and collective bargaining agreement in the Industry; that government should provide roads and stop illegal taxation/levies from all quarters.
