Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about the origin of her popular nickname, “Omosexy,” revealing that her husband, Matthew Ekeinde, gave it to her.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM, the award-winning actress explained that, contrary to public belief, the nickname did not come from fans or colleagues in the entertainment industry. According to her, it began as a personal gesture from her husband early in their marriage.
Omotola recalled that Captain Ekeinde bought her a Lincoln Navigator as a gift and went a step further by customising the vehicle’s plate number with the name “Omosexy.” She said the unique gesture caught attention at the time, and the nickname gradually gained popularity among fans and within Nollywood.
Responding to questions during the interview, the actress said, “Na my honey boy give me that name,” adding that the customised plate number was the starting point of what would later become a defining part of her public identity.
Over the years, “Omosexy” has evolved into a strong personal brand associated with the actress, reflecting both her enduring presence in Nollywood and her connection with audiences across generations.
