Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have intercepted a convoy of buses on transit along Naka- Makurdi road in Benue state, abducting six passengers.

A resident of Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West local government area, Tersoo Andrew, told LEADERSHIP that the travellers were attacked in the early hours of Tuesday when they were heading to Makurdi, the state capital, from Kogi State.

Andrew further stated that one of the travellers who escaped narrated that the incident occurred a few kilometres from Makurdi town, “What I heard from someone who escaped the attack was that they left Naka early morning and were heading to Makurdi. They were coming from Kogi state and slept at Naka  town and were moving early to Makurdi”

Though the bandits were said to have contacted some of the victims’ relatives, demanding N100 million for them to regain freedom.

Confirming the attack, Chairman of Gwer West Local Government area, Victor Ormin, said the travellers who were coming from Kogi state and passed through Naka heading to Makurdi were ambushed by suspected bandits.
