Goronyo Distributes N200m Ramadan Palliatives To APC Members, Others In Sokoto

The Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., on Monday, February 16, 2026, officially flagged off the distribution of cash and food items worth over ₦200,000,000 to the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto State.

Goronyo, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Abdullahi Mohammed, said the intervention was aimed at supporting vulnerable households and easing economic pressures as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan.

The statement said the annual initiative, which has become a consistent feature of the Minister’s outreach to his constituents, underscored his unwavering commitment to social welfare, inclusive governance, and grassroots empowerment.

The support package comprised substantial cash donations and essential food items, including rice, millet, sugar, guinea corn, maize, and wrappers.

“The total value of the intervention exceeded ₦200 million, ensuring that beneficiaries observe Ramadan with dignity, comfort, and renewed hope,” he added.

The Minister, in his address, expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his bold economic reforms and infrastructural drive across the country.
He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President has strengthened governance and laid the foundation for sustainable national development.

The Minister also commended the governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for his visionary leadership and people-oriented policies that continued to complement federal initiatives in the state.

He further paid glowing tribute to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for his mentorship, political guidance, and steadfast commitment to the unity and progress of Sokoto State.

According to the Minister, the synergy between the Federal Government under President Tinubu, the Sokoto State Government under Governor Aliyu, and the strategic leadership of Senator Wamakko has created a strong platform for accelerated development and grassroots empowerment.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Goronyo local government area, the Permanent Secretary, Alh. Hussaini Umar Gorau (SSA/PA to the Governor of Sokoto State), expressed profound gratitude and urged sustained unity and support for the APC-led administration.

Hon. Faruku Ahmad Rimawa commended the Minister for his generosity and consistent commitment to community development.

The Minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the leadership of the APC and pledged continued support for policies that uplift citizens and strengthen democratic institutions.

The Minister also disbursed ₦33 million to local government and Ward Executives of the party while members of the local government executive received ₦100,000 each, some executive members received ₦50,000 each.

“The total amount received by the local government EXCO was ₦1.45 million.
Ward Chairmen across the 11 wards received ₦200,000 each, while their Secretaries received ₦100,000 each. Ward Executive members received ₦30,000 each.

“The total disbursed to Ward Executives was approximately ₦12 million,” he added.

Other beneficiaries include: Goronyo Social Media Group – ₦2 million, Goronyo Youth Association – ₦1.5 million, Youths in each of the 11 wards – ₦500,000 per ward (₦5 million total), APC Youth Mobilization, Goronyo – ₦1.5 million, Eight elderly community leaders – ₦500,000 each (₦4 million total), Goronyo Students Association – ₦1 million, Former Councillors of Goronyo – ₦500,000, Decampees – ₦500,000, Women’s Association – ₦1.5 million.

He noted that in addition to the cash support, three trailer-loads of rice valued at approximately ₦90 million were distributed. Bags of sugar worth over ₦28 million were also provided, alongside large quantities of millet and wrappers.

Meanwhile, aecurity agencies received about 178 bags of rice, including the Police, Military, Civil Defence, DSS, Community Guards, Vigilantes, and other security outfits.

Also, institutions such as NOWA, the Ministry of Justice (Magistrate & Courts), and INEC also benefited from the Ramadan intervention.
