The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) has appealed to the federal government to strengthen security, health and education systems across the country.
The request was made at the 6th Session of as NYP marked its first anniversary with a special session and plenary sitting, celebrating its legislative strides, advocacy efforts and youth-focused interventions across the country.
The commemorative sitting, presided over by the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Zakari Idris, served as a platform for members to reflect on the achievements within the past year.
Members highlighted successful programmes, strategic advocacies, constituency engagements, individual members’ initiatives and active participation in representing Nigerian youths at both national and international levels.
During the plenary, several motions were presented by members of the Parliament, all geared toward strengthening the institution and expanding youth inclusion in governance.
In his remarks, Idris commended members for their dedication, unity, and commitment to purposeful leadership within their first year in office. He described the anniversary as a moment to reflect on impact rather than merely the passage of time.
“This milestone is a testament to the resolve of this session to remain a strong voice for Nigerian youths and to contribute meaningfully to national development,” the Speaker stated.
He also reiterated the Parliament’s call on government at all levels to intensify efforts toward improving national security, strengthening healthcare systems, and ensuring access to quality education.
According to him, progress in these sectors remains fundamental to youth development and the country’s overall stability and prosperity.
In recognition of its performance, the 6th Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament received an Award of Excellence and Commendation from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development. The Ministry described the current assembly as one of the best-performing sessions in the history of the Parliament, citing its achievements and proactive engagement within just one year in office.
