Newstap/SWAN Five-Star Award Nomination Excites Nigerian Boxing Chief

Hon. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, an internationally renowned boxing promoter and Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, has expressed his profound honour at being nominated for the prestigious Newstap/SWAN Five-Star Award.

Mr. Imadu, who also serves as President of the YUCATECO Boxing League and Vice President of African Boxing, views the nomination as a direct acknowledgement of his unwavering dedication to advancing boxing within Nigeria.

He stated: “It’s a great honour to be considered for this award. It is a testament to the good work we’re doing for the advancement of boxing in the country and we’ll continue to do our best to ensure that the sport gets adequate attention.” He also extended his gratitude to the organisers for deeming him worthy of such a distinguished accolade.

Mr. Imadu believes the award will further motivate him to contribute more to the sport, vowing to persist in his efforts towards grassroots development, a cause spearheaded by his YUCATECO Boxing League.

Other notable nominees for this year’s award include the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri; the CEO/Director-General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), His Excellency Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu; and Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Blessing Hall of Eko Club Surulere, Lagos, March 6th. The inaugural edition of the award was chaired by Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
