The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has congratulated the Muslim and Christian communities on the commencement of Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons.

The governor in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the two fasting seasons beginning on the same day signaled a need for all of mankind across creeds to work for harmony, peace, and unity.

The statement reads:” The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq extends special greetings to the Muslim and Christian communities on the dawn of Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons tomorrow, February 18, 2026.

“The governor says the two fasting seasons beginning on the same day again signals a need for all of mankind across creeds to work for harmony, peace, and unity, while acting as a united force against all forms of evil and things that could slow down the pace of development in the state and Nigeria.

“Fasting opens a unique window for man to get closer to the Creator through abstention from sins, intentional giving of alms, and all forms of good deeds. It helps man to redefine his essence before the Creator.

“The governor prays to God to accept the devotion of the faithful in these holy months, urging the two faith communities to pray and work with the government to improve the wellbeing of the people.”

The Muslim fast commenced yesterday ( Wednesday) following the citing of the new crescent in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The Emir of Ilorin and chairman,  Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alh  Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, had on Tuesday confirmed that the Ramadan fast would commence  yesterday.

Sulu- Gambari  announced this  in  a statement issued by his press secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona.

The Emir congratulated the Muslims for witnessing the 2026 Ramadan fast, urging them to  observe it in line with the commandment of the Almighty Allah .

He urged them to  extend acts of charity to the less privileged throughout the holy month.
