A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has dismissed what he described as false, malicious and baseless allegations of genocide against Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
The lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezea federal constituency of Ebonyi state, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, called on Joy Idam, who is linked to the allegations, to apologise to the people of the state.
Idam, an Abuja-based media personality, had reportedly petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged genocide by the governor.
The lawmaker described as frivolous and false allegations made against Idam by Nwifuru, saying the governor has done commendably well.
“Mrs Joy Idam should apologise to the Ebonyi people because what she said is false and unfounded.
“Gov. Francis Nwifuru, since his inception as governor, has stabilised Ebonyi through his “people’s charter of need” programme,” he said.
Ogah commended the governor’s quality leadership in tackling insecurity and communal crises in the state.
According to him, many communities were at war before the governor’s inauguration, but today he has ended all of them.
The lawmaker said that Mrs Idam is not in touch with reality and advised her to return to Ebonyi to witness the governor’s achievements in conflict resolution.
Ogah maintained that the governor’s closure of state-owned schools was part of measures to address insecurity and intra-state clashes.
“Almost 10 different communities were fighting an interstate war. But when this young man was elected governor of Ebonyi State, he brought out what is called the chatter of proposed needs. He went down to the rural dwellers, asked them what he wanted.
“Today, none of these places is still fighting a war, courtesy of the good administration of our dear governor. For someone living in Abuja, they have never been at home. They have never contributed to the growth of Ebonyi State.
“That is why I decided, as a member representing the people from Ebonyi state, to clear the air. What she said is false. Because we know all that the governor of Ebonyi state has done to make sure there is peace in Ebonyi state,” he stated.
