The Social Democratic Party (SDP) wrapped up its campaign for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election with a call to voters to embrace inclusive governance, transparency, and accountability.

its chairmanship candidate, Dr. Obinna Simon, and former presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, addressed supporters and residents on Thursday, on the need to redefine leadership at the local government level.

Simon emphasised that AMAC must be managed as a shared civic space that serves both indigenes and non-indigenes.

“AMAC is not the private estate of any individual or group. It is a public trust. Leadership must reflect the diversity of our people and respond to the needs of every community without discrimination,” he said.

He pledged to prioritise education reform, healthcare revitalization, and youth empowerment if elected, noting that governance must translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

“Our people deserve a council that works. Government hospitals must be properly equipped and staffed. Schools must remain open and conducive for learning. Empowerment must go beyond rhetoric to structured economic opportunities for women and youth,” he added.

Simon urged residents to see their votes as a tool for demanding accountability, insisting that leadership must be earned through service.

Also speaking, Prince Adewole Adebayo, former SDP presidential candidate, charged Nigerians to take responsibility for governance and resist poor leadership.

“The biggest mistake in Nigeria today is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Years of mismanagement have allowed our resources to be misused, but they cannot take away our intelligence or our voice,” he said.

He stressed the importance of protecting votes and demanding transparency in the electoral process. “Government exists for the people. We must ensure our votes are protected and demand transparency, including electronic transmission of election results,” he stated.
Similarly, the National Chairman, Professor Abubakar Gombe, expressed confidence in the party’s candidates, describing them as competent, credible, and capable of delivering people-centered governance.
He assured residents that the party’s leadership would prioritize security, peace, and welfare, noting that its chairmanship candidate, Dr. Obinna Simon, had already demonstrated commitment to community development through a foundation that supports indigent residents.
Professor Gombe emphasized that with council resources, such efforts would be expanded for the benefit of all, stating, “We assure the people of AMAC that they will not regret voting for the SDP. Our party is rooted in welfare and people-centered governance. The promised progress is within reach.” he stated.
He called on residents to exercise their democratic rights, remain peaceful, and protect their votes until results are announced.
End.
