With weeks to go until the 3rd National Para-Sports Games, Nasarawa State Government has unveiled its ambition to secure a significant medal haul at the annual multi-sport event.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, whose remarks were delivered by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Stephen Iliya Sasetu, shared these plans today while hosting the state’s para-athletes in Lafia.
The Ministry reiterated its unwavering support, underscoring the State Government’s dedication to the advancement of para-sports.
Athletes were encouraged to refine their skills through diligent and intelligent training for the national stage. The Commissioner confirmed that the State Government is implementing all necessary arrangements to ensure a strong contingent represents Nasarawa at the Games.
Furthermore, the government pledged to handsomely reward any athletes who achieve distinction at the event.
Nasarawa State will compete in eight sports: Para-soccer, Para-athletics, Para-table tennis, Para-powerlifting, Para-taekwondo, Para-karate, Para-sitting volleyball, and Deaf Football.
The Permanent Secretary was joined by Directors and Senior Officials from the Ministry in welcoming the para-athletes.
The 3rd National Para-Sports Games are scheduled to take place from 26th March to 3rd April at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
