The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Zone 11 Osogbo, Osun State, has arrested a member of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, Amoo Saheed Ajibola, and three others, for alleged gun running, forgery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Zonal Police Public Relations Officer,
Zone 11 Osogbo, DSP Ade Ogunyemi, said Ajibola was arrested on Thursday.
He said contrary to the claim that the suspect was arrested in ‘Gestapo-Style’ by the Oyo State Security Network Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 11, Osogbo, was investigating a case involving gun running, illegal sales of prohibited arms, forgery, and unlawful possession of firearms, in which Ajibola featured.
He explained that Ajibola is a principal suspect in the syndicate and had been at large for a long time.
“According to investigations, Ajibola sold prohibited firearms to unauthorized individuals for criminal use and forged a fake police license, contravening the ban on issuing licenses for prohibited arms to individuals since 2018.
“Until his arrest there was no information regarding his being a member of the Amotekun Corps.
“So far, three others suspects have been arrested in connection with the case and a barrel gun recovered
“Meanwhile, the police had made several attempts to invite the suspect, but efforts were unsuccessful.
“The arrest followed credible intelligence and due process. The police will continue to uphold the law despite misinformation.
“The public is urged to cooperate with authorities and provide information on such illicit activities,” Ogunyemi said.
Reacting to the arrest, the Oyo State Security Network Agency Amotekun Corps condemned what it described as a “Gestapo-style” abduction of one of its operatives, Amo Saheed Ajibola, by suspected men of the Nigeria Police from Zone 11.
The Amotekun Corps said Amo Ajibola who was lawfully deployed to a static patrol position covering General Gas, Akobo Ibadan, was reportedly abducted at about 2000hrs (8p.m.) on Tuesday, 17 February , 2026, while on official duty.
Commandant of the Amotekun Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), faulted the manner in which the operative was abducted.
He noted that the agency had consistently maintained a cooperative relationship with other sister security agencies, which include the Police, DSS, and the NSCDC, particularly in handling criminal cases involving own operatives.
“We have always handed over suspected accused to relevant security agencies on request. That is the standard procedure being observed in our collaboration with the police and other sister agencies,” he said.
He stressed that if there were any investigation involving the officer, the appropriate step would have been to formally approach the Amotekun Headquarters, especially since Amo Saheed was on lawful duty at the time of his abduction.
“Therefore, the Gestapo approach of abducting Amo. Saheed Ajibola while on duty does not demonstrate civility.
“Consequently, there was no reason whatsoever to justifying the Gastapo like action of the police officers from Zone 11, Osogbo. There is the need for the police to be civil in their approach by being mindful that all suspects has a right to know their offences and their fundamental rights should be respected during arrest.
“It was observed that the Gastapo approach could have resulted in violent resistance which may lead into fatality. The police officers who abducted Amo Saheed on duty were not in police uniform nor branded police vehicle.
“Considering that anybody can claimed to be a police officer carrying sophisticated weapons and on mufti bearing in mind circumstances surrounding recent incidences of abduction in the metropolis,” it added.
The Commandant described the method adopted by men of Zone 11 of NPF as unbecoming and thus advised that better approach be adopted in the future in the interest of inter-agency cooperation and effective synergy.
