Former minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has dismissed a report circulating on social media alleging that he raised concerns over a so-called “Hausa Insurgency” and its purported sponsors.
The former minister refuted claims that he made the remarks in an interview with Ibadan-based radio station, Splash FM 105.5.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, Mohammed described the report as entirely fabricated and misleading.
“It has come to my attention that a fabricated story is circulating on social media, falsely quoting me as raising the alarm over a so-called ‘Hausa Insurgency’ and its alleged sponsors.
“I categorically state that I have never made any comment regarding a ‘Hausa insurgency’ on any platform whatsoever,” he said.
Mohammed urged members of the public to disregard the purported interview, describing it as the handiwork of “relentless agents of fake news and deliberate distortion.”
He cautioned against the spread of unverified information, stressing that such fabrications are capable of misleading the public and creating unnecessary confusion.
