Contrary to the report circulating in social media platforms, the Taraba State Government said it has not suspended the vice chancellor of the state-owned university, Prof. Sunday Bako or the Governing Council of the institution.
Speaking with newsmen, the state commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Mike Dio Jen, denied knowledge of the purported suspension of the VC.
According to the commissioner, the report circulating on social media did not originate from Governor Agbu Kefas as claimed.
“I don’t know about that. I have not received that information from the governor,” Dr Jen said.
When contacted, the vice chancellor, Prof Bako, also denied any knowledge of his suspension.
“I am not aware of my suspension. I have not received any letter to that effect. I saw the social media report and called the commissioner, he told me that he is not aware as well.
“I don’t know where the author of the publication got the information from,” Prof Bako said.
Meanwhile, report from the social media claimed that, Governor Agbu Kefas has directed the indefinite suspension of the vice chancellor, Prof Sunday Bako, and as well ordered the dissolution of the Governing Council with immediate effect over persistent strikes and alleged administrative incompetence.
The rumour making the round is coming four days after members of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, embarked on an indefinite strike action to press home their demands.
