The minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, yesterday lamented the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in manholes of the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway corridor.
Umahi stated this while fielding questions from journalists at the Chainage 34 of the coastal highway, warning vandals of capital projects to desist from collapsing the goodwill for economic growth in the country.
He noted that destruction of capital projects and public infrastructure affects the indices of growth and puts the economy at risk.
Harping on the dumping refuse in manholes along the corridors of the Lagos-calabar coastal highway and the breakage of metal rails by vandals he described the dumping of refuse into manholes on the coastal highway as satanic.
He noted that the dumping of refuse into manholes may soon cause flooding of the corridors if not timely addressed, charging the commissioner of Police Lagos state to address the issues of vandalism and take swift actions to monitor the situation as anyone caught should be charged to court immediately and face the full weight of the law.
The Minister affirmed the achievement of renewed hope by the government with the indices of macroeconomics in stabilising the foreign exchange markets.
Umahi, who said the nation has foreign reserve worth over $49 billion with inflation down to 50 per cent, added that the signs are not magical but the commitment of president Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope’s vision.
He commended the pace of work on Chainage 34, Section 1 of Lagos-Calabar coastal highway while attributing the pace of work to HiTech Construction Company for delivering stable growth with bold infrastructure.
He noted that HiTech ingenuity and expertise has raised the bar for construction business in the country while buttressing that the company’s ethics and professional work model is second to none in terms of project delivery, spirit of partnership and development of the country.
The minister also clarifies issues raised on Julius Berger construction works where he rated HiTech as the leading construction company in the country for expertly handling construction and road projects with enduring infrastructure in the country.
Umahi bemoaned the passing of the chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Sen. Barinada Mpigi while commiserating with his family and assuring that the Ministry will not leave them behind as Mpigi’s works and efforts to achieve infrastructure delivery on coastal highway will not be forgotten.
