Ejiro Peters powered to victory in the 100m women’s race at the ongoing 2nd Niger Delta Games in Benin City on Saturday, describing her gold medal-winning performance as a pivotal moment that will propel her to future success in athletics.

Peters clocked an impressive 11.58 seconds to secure the gold for Delta State. Host state Edo claimed both silver and bronze, with Praise Tejiri finishing in 11.76 seconds and Imoisemeh Victory in 11.78 seconds respectively.

Speaking to NDG media after the race, Peters, who set a new personal best (PB) by shaving time off her previous 11.67 seconds, expressed her surprise at her speed.

“I’ve been praying for this moment. It’s really a great moment,” she said. “I will say I was not expecting it, actually. But it came and I’m very excited because for me to be competing for my state is a big one for me. I just give all the glory to God.”
