The Kano State Anti-Drug Abuse and Trafficking Committee has arrested a 27-year-old man, Ishaq Lawan Ibrahim, popularly known as Malam Keya, over allegations of sponsoring violent gang activities in Dala Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, a native of Yalwa in Dala, was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following an intelligence-led operation by officials of the committee.
According to a statement by the committee, Malam Keya was allegedly involved in financing and coordinating attacks by rival gang groups, which reportedly resulted in loss of lives and disrupted peace in parts of Dala.
The statement said the suspect fled Kano after security agencies intensified their crackdown on gang activities in areas including Jakara, Madigawa, Yalwa, Sanka, Kul Kul, Dogon Nama, Kukar Bulukiya, Shatsari and Dandalin Turawa.
It added that operatives of the committee, led by CSP Bashir Gwadabe, tracked him to Port Harcourt, where he was apprehended and subsequently brought back to Kano for further investigation.
The committee’s chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, said security agencies would continue pursuing individuals suspected of financing violence, regardless of where they fled.
He stated that the suspect was in police custody and would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The committee also urged residents to support security agencies by providing useful information about activities capable of threatening peace and public safety in the state.
