Governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Chukwuma Soludo has stated that the rift between him and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi is purely political and not personal.
Soludo who spoke at the marking of the 70th birthday anniversary of the Bishop of Awka Catholic diocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor at St. Patrick Cathedral Parish, Awka, yesterday insisted that Obi remained his brother irrespective of their political differences.
Soludo had in an article titled: ‘History beckons and I will not be silent,’ de-marketed Peter Obi’s presidential ambition in the 2023 general election stating that he would not win; that Obi was merely on a political jamboree.
But in his speech at Most Rev. Ezeokafor’s birthday anniversary thanksgiving mass, Soludo stated that he would soon meet with Obi so that both of them would iron out their political differences which he said was essentially political.
Reacting to the allegation that he was paid about $28 million to run down his predecessor by the one of the latter’s political rivals in the 2023 presidential contest, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, dismissed the allegation as “laughable” stating that if he was such a character he would have been a trillionaire by now.
Soludo said: “Today is very special. When we came into the service, it was the first time my brother, Peter Obi and I were meeting in a public event and in a Catholic Church which the two of us belong to. I think it was divine.
“When I came in, I quickly went to where he sat and hugged him, people watched with bewilderment as if we are acting in a drama. Is it not the same people quarrelling?
“Let me tell you, we spoke two times, just last night. We are brothers. You know I’m not one of those politicians that speak from two sides of the mouth. I can’t pretend. I am a politician, but I also want to make heaven. I will keep telling the truth.
“There’s no rift between Obi and I at a personal level. Nobody snatched each other’s wife. What appears to be the rift between us is fundamental political differences. Nothing else.”
