Abia Warriors returned to winning form with a 1-0 triumph over Kwara United in the Matchday 27 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, held at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.
Casmir Azubuike netted the decisive goal in the 29th minute with a speculative delivery that eluded everyone, including Kwara United’s goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso, marking a crucial win for the Warriors.
The victory not only ended a frustrating five-game winless run for Abia Warriors but also marked their first home win in nearly four matches, since they last defeated Warri Wolves 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium on December 21, 2025.
Head coach Imama Amapakabo made just one change to the lineup that had drawn with Remo Stars in their previous outing, bringing in Kunle Adeleke to replace Somiari Alalibo, who was sidelined due to accumulated yellow cards.
The match began slowly for the Warriors, but they soon found their rhythm, dominating possession and pinning Kwara United back into their half. Despite a spirited second-half performance from the visitors, who controlled much of the possession towards the end, they could not breach the resolute defence of Jibrin Faiz, Kunle Adeleke, Innocent Gabriel, and captain Emmanuel Ogbuagu.
Abia Warriors missed several opportunities to extend their lead, with close attempts from Chukwuemeka Obioma, Valentine Ugwu, Suraj Lawal, and Azubuike himself.
Looking ahead, Abia Warriors will face El-Kanemi Warriors in an away match in Maiduguri on Sunday, 1st March 2026.
