Wolves Kick As Arokodare Suffers Racist Abuse After Missing Penalty At Crystal Palace

Wolverhampton Wanderers have denounced the “abhorrent and unlawful” racist messages directed at striker Tolu Arokodare on social media.

The club shared screenshots of the abuse, expressing their disgust at the incident.

Arokodare, a Nigeria international who joined Wolves from Belgian side Genk last summer, started in the afternoon’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, where he had a penalty saved by Dean Henderson in the first half. Following the match, he became the target of racist abuse on his social media accounts, with Wolves confirming that the offensive messages originated from multiple individuals.

A statement from Wolves read: “We are appalled by the numerous instances of racist abuse directed at Tolu Arokodare on social media after today’s match against Crystal Palace. There is no room for racism in football, online, or anywhere in society. We condemn this abhorrent and unlawful behaviour in the strongest possible terms.

“Tolu has our full and unwavering support. No player should endure such hatred simply for doing their job. We stand firmly alongside him and all footballers who are subjected to abuse from anonymous accounts that act with apparent impunity.

“The club has reported the posts to the relevant platforms and will collaborate with the Premier League and authorities to help identify those responsible and ensure appropriate action is taken. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination.”

The abuse suffered by Arokodare follows similar incidents involving Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri, both of whom faced racial abuse that prompted strong condemnation from their respective clubs.
