For the very first time, the former Canadian Prime Minister’s son, Xavier Trudeau, spoke freely on his father’s relationship with pop star girlfriend, Katy Perry, after the confirmation of their relationship.

Xavier, 18, said in a recent social media video, “She’s cool, she’s nice,” adding, “We talked for hours, talking about my music. She gave me advice and next steps for me and stuff.”

He broke his silence on the matter months after Katy Perry made her romance with the former Canadian leader public, sharing his experience with the American singer-songwriter.

Xavier is a budding musician presently building a R&B music career under the moniker Xav.

“I always loved music, whether it’s creating it, listening to it,” he explained on the Brandon Gonez Show podcast in May. “I always had a passion for it.”

Trudeau and his estranged wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, supported and helped foster Xavier’s love of music, enrolling him in lessons ranging from drums to guitar and piano. Then he began producing beats on his phone before creating R&B music.

Xavier said his parents have been supportive of his music career from the start. “Every single time I come back from the studio, I’d have something to show then, and we sit at dinner and listen to it like, ‘Oh, I like this. I don’t like that.’”
He expressed that his parents loved it and were happy for him and for his choice to follow his own path.

Trudeau and Katy’s relationship was first suspected on July 28, 2025, after the two were spotted enjoying dinner at Le Violon in Montreal, Canada.

Trudeau is also father to Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien Trudeau, 11, whom he had with his separated spouse, Sophie.
