The Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Youth Council has commended the Executive Chairman of the National Revenue Service (NRS), Zack Adedeji, for surpassing the Service’s 2025 revenue target, describing the achievement as unprecedented.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its chairman. Comrade, Igboayaka. Igboayaka, the Council said the performance reflected strategic leadership, fiscal discipline and improved tax administration under Adedeji’s stewardship.

The commendation followed Adedeji’s presentation before a committee of the House of Representatives, where he disclosed that the NRS exceeded its 2025 revenue target of ₦25.2 trillion, recording a total collection of ₦28.23 trillion. The figure represents about ₦3 trillion above the projected target, amounting to a 12 per cent increase.

According to the Council, the revenue growth was driven largely by improved non-oil tax collections, a development it said signals progress in diversifying Nigeria’s revenue base and reducing overreliance on oil earnings.

“The performance of the National Revenue Service under Mr. Adedeji has been remarkable and unprecedented,” the statement said, adding that the outcome was evidence of effective reforms aimed at expanding the tax net, blocking revenue leakages and strengthening compliance mechanisms.

The group stressed that exceeding the revenue target by such a wide margin was not accidental. “Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Youth Council believes that surpassing the 2025 revenue target is the product of deliberate reforms, innovation and transparency in revenue administration,” it stated.

The Council called on Nigerians to support ongoing fiscal reforms designed to strengthen national revenue generation, noting that improved revenue performance is critical to funding infrastructure, security, education and other key sectors of the economy.

It also urged the National Assembly to continue providing the necessary legislative backing to sustain the momentum and ensure that increased revenue translates into tangible development outcomes for citizens.

Reaffirming its confidence in Adedeji’s leadership, the group encouraged the NRS to consolidate on the gains recorded in 2025 and strive for even greater milestones in the coming years.
