Kano Anti-Graft Agency Recovers Official Vehicles From Kwankwaso’s Son, Ex-Commissioners

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has recovered five vehicles from former commissioners who failed to return official government vehicles after resigning from the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf.

Chairman of the commission, Saidu Yahaya, who led the recovery exercise, disclosed that the action followed a court order obtained after the affected former officials reportedly ignored several directives to return government property.

The development comes in the wake of the resignation of some commissioners said to be loyal to the Kwankwasiyya Movement leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, shortly after Governor Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yahaya said one vehicle was recovered from each of the five former commissioners, noting that only two of the vehicles were confirmed to be official government vehicles, while the remaining three were under investigation to determine their status.

“Of course, there are five commissioners who resigned their appointments from this government recently. There are official vehicles attached to them. They were advised to return the vehicles but they turned deaf ears. We followed due process and the court granted us permission to recover the vehicles,” he said.

“Out of the five vehicles recovered, two are official vehicles. The remaining three were not official vehicles. We will investigate to determine whether the official vehicles were sold to procure these ones or ascertain their actual status,” Yahaya added.

He further stated that both the state government and the commission had earlier written to the former commissioners, requesting the return of the vehicles before commencing legal action.

Those affected included former Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Duties, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd); former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso; former Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata; former Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Adams Aliyu Kibiya, and former Commissioner for Special Projects, Hon. Nasiru Sani Garo.
