Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has assured residents of the state that the police command under his watch will tackle emerging security threats in the state.

The police boss stated this when he featured on a live interactive broadcast on News Central where he addressed security concerns and responded to questions from viewers and a panel of guests.

The town hall-style programme, titled “Is the Police Your Friend?”, featured guests including actress Kate Henshaw, Bright Jaja, Funke Treasure, Gbenga Ademujimi and a retired Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.

Viewers participated through phone calls, social media messages and live studio interactions, raising issues such as neighbourhood patrol visibility, traffic enforcement and cybercrime.

Commissioner Jimoh said the Lagos State Police Command remained committed to intelligence-driven policing and collaboration with residents, noting that while criticism of the police was common, effective policing required officers to be actively engaged on the ground.

During the discussion, Ademujimi attributed insecurity partly to what he described as chronic underfunding of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that despite a N969 billion budget allocation in 2024, many divisional stations operated with limited funds.

Owoseni said there was a trust deficit between citizens and public institutions, adding that the police required reorientation and greater accountability to strengthen public confidence.

Analysts on the programme commended the live interactive format, saying it reflected growing openness between law enforcement authorities and the public. They noted that such engagements could help rebuild trust, address misinformation and encourage shared responsibility for security.

The programme ended with the commissioner assuring residents that the command would continue to tackle emerging security threats and sustain public engagement initiatives.

The broadcast forms part of News Central’s civic engagement initiative aimed at providing viewers with access to public officials and information on policies affecting daily life.
