The Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna is set for a significant transformation following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 26th February 2026, transferring its ownership and rehabilitation responsibilities to the Kaduna State Government. The agreement, formalised at the National Sports Commission (NSC) Headquarters in Abuja, was signed by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Kaduna State governor, Senator Uba Sani.
This pivotal move, sanctioned by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, paves the way for immediate rehabilitation work on the historic venue. The ambitious redevelopment project aims to modernise the stadium, expanding its capacity to 32,000. This upgrade is expected to position Kaduna as a prominent centre for elite sports and sports tourism within Nigeria.
The initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s broader vision to bolster sports infrastructure across the nation and leverage sports as a vital catalyst for economic growth and youth development.
