ICPC Weaponising Our Father’s Silence Against Him – El-Rufai’s Family

The family of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of waging what it described as a smear campaign against him.

In a statement issued by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives, the family alleged that the anti-graft agency was “weaponising” the former governor’s constitutional right to silence.

Bello El-Rufai described the allegations against his father as “deeply unfortunate,” claiming that the Commission had “descended into what can only be described as a circus of chicanery.”

According to him, rather than adhering to due process, the ICPC was prosecuting what he termed a media trial.

He said, “Our father has consistently told law enforcement agencies: ‘Charge me if you have anything against me. You have had more than two years to investigate me. Take me to court.’”

The lawmaker argued that the Commission’s alleged failure to file charges against the former governor after years of investigation undermines its public claims.

The statement further asserted that the ICPC’s inability to prosecute the former governor in court explains what the family described as “lies and obfuscation.”

As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC had yet to respond to the allegations raised by the El-Rufai family.
