Over 100 golfers are set to converge at the Ikeja Golf Club on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, for a charity tournament themed “Swing to Serve with Love.”
The event, organised by Catholic golfers, aims to raise crucial funds for the mental health and well-being of priests, religious, and consecrated persons through the St Kizito Wellness Project.
Mrs. Fatumata Coker, Chairman of the Organising Committee, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are looking forward to a great event. In the spirit of Lenten charity and solidarity, we welcome all to play and make donations to the St Kizito Wellness Project.”
The initiative is championed by Rev. Fr Michael Olofinlade, whose St Kizito Wellness Project focuses on strengthening mental health support systems for clergy. Fr. Olofinlade highlighted the event’s significance: “This golf kitty is more than a game; it is a charity kitty dedicated to promoting robust mental health support for clergy, religious and consecrated persons.”
The tournament, open to all, will feature a Texas Scramble format with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. sharp, promising an engaging experience for participants of all skill levels.
Over 100 golfers have already registered, demonstrating strong interest and support. Attendees will also receive an autographed copy of Rev. Fr Michael Olofinlade’s book.
Following the golf, Dr. Leonard Chukwuka Okonkwo, a Chartered Psychologist and specialist from LASUTH, will deliver a talk titled “The Challenges of Mental Health on Priests and Religious Today,” further emphasising the event’s core mission.
