The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, will lead a distinguished array of guests on 28th March for the official launch of the Kadiri Ikhana Football Academy in Auchi.
The academy, which has been operating on a limited basis since late last year, is set for its full commencement following the high-profile event.
Among the notable figures expected to attend are Malam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), and Bukola Olopade, the NSC’s Director General. Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), will also be present, alongside chairmen from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and representatives from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
Coach Kadiri Ikhana, famed for guiding Enyimba International to Nigeria’s inaugural CAF Champions League title in 1993, expressed his enthusiasm for the academy. He highlighted the involvement of the Edo State Deputy Governor, Honourable Amadin Desmond Enabulele, and the Edo State Sports Commission.
The launch will also welcome legendary players from the victorious 1980 African Cup of Nations Green Eagles, including Segun Odegbami and Felix Owolabi. Ikhana, himself a member of that championship squad, stated the academy’s aim is to “nurture young talents aged 9 to 16, providing a solid foundation for Nigeria’s junior national teams and clubs.” He underscored the critical importance of developing age-grade football in the nation.
