NANS Backs Tantita Contract, Urges Federal Government To Uphold It

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has observed with concern the growing calls in certain quarters demanding the termination of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

NAN’s senate president, Usman Adamu Nagwaza, while calling on the federal government not to rescind the agreement, said umbrella legislative body representing millions of Nigerian students, “find these calls not only ill-advised but also counterproductive to the ongoing efforts aimed at safeguarding Nigeria’s critical oil infrastructure and stabilizing the nation’s economy.

“It is on record that since the engagement of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Nigeria has witnessed remarkable progress in the fight against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism across the Niger Delta.

“This intervention has significantly contributed to the restoration of oil production levels and has further strengthened national revenue at a time when the country is in dire need of economic stability,” NANS said.

According to the students body, the decision of the federal government of Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to engage indigenous security outfits such as Tantita is a pragmatic approach to addressing the long-standing security challenges in the oil-producing communities.

“The success recorded so far demonstrates that the strategy is yielding tangible results,” it added.

It, therefore, views the agitation for the cancellation of this contract as an attempt capable of undermining the gains already achieved in securing the nation’s oil assets.

“At a time when Nigeria is striving to boost production and restore investor confidence in its energy sector, reversing such a strategic engagement would be a step in the wrong direction.

“The National Association of Nigerian Students firmly believes that rather than seeking the termination of the contract, the initiative must be supported to promote peace, protect national resources, and create opportunities,” it said.

Consequently, NANS called on the federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to remain resolute and resist pressures aimed at rescinding the pipeline surveillance contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.

“Nigerian students stand firmly in support of policies and partnerships that strengthen national security, curb economic sabotage, and promote sustainable development in the country,” it added.
