The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance, and compassion as key drivers of national cohesion and sustainable development.

He made the call during this year’s annual Islamic Lecture and distribution of palliatives to widows of fallen officers and the less privileged, held at the command’s headquarters, in Abuja.

The event, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi, a longstanding practice of the Corps during Ramadan, reflects its commitment to the welfare of personnel and the communities they serve.

Odumosu noted that Ramadan is a period for preaching love and reaching out to the less privileged, adding that the FCT Command seized the occasion to provide foodstuffs and cash gifts to widows of fallen officers and other vulnerable members of society.

“The widows of our gallant officers sacrificed alongside their spouses in service to the nation. Supporting them is not charity, but a moral obligation and a mark of institutional gratitude,” he said,

While calling on privileged residents to extend similar gestures of kindness beyond Ramadan, the FCT commandant emphasised that the Corps’ duties go beyond safeguarding lives and critical assets; they include caring for the welfare of officers, their families, and the communities they serve.

He urged all personnel to internalise lessons of love, tolerance, and compassion in their homes, workplaces, and social interactions.

Odumosu prayed for Allah’s blessings on everyone involved in the initiative, hoping their efforts inspire continued service to humanity.

“The support shown at today’s event reflects the unity and shared responsibility our society urgently needs to move forward,” the Commandant said, adding that while material support cannot solve all challenges, it offers comfort and reassurance to those who have sacrificed so much.he concluded.“
