As Nigerians joined the world to celebrate International Women’s Day yesterday, the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) has pledged to complete renal dialysis centres in Ekpoma, Edo Central Senatorial District, and Okpella, Edo North Senatorial District, as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare in Edo State.

The association disclosed that a similar dialysis centre located in Benin City, Edo South Senatorial District, has already been completed and commissioned.

Global president of ENAW, Bose Oviasu, made this known in a statement issued to commemorate the celebration, where she paid tribute to Nigerian women for their managerial abilities, resilience and unwavering commitment to nation building.

Oviasu noted that the celebration of International Women’s Day has become an important platform for evaluating the role of women in advancing social, economic, cultural and political development across the world.

She also commended members of the association and other supporters for their contributions towards the projects.

According to her, the renal dialysis centre in Okpella has been completed, while the facility in Ekpoma is currently under construction.

“The renal dialysis centre in Okpella, Edo North has been completed, while the one in Ekpoma, Edo Central Senatorial District, is under construction. The commissioning of both facilities will take place later this year,” she said.

Oviasu reiterated the association’s commitment to promoting the welfare of its members, fostering unity and mutual understanding, preserving the rich cultural heritage of Edo State and attracting more developmental projects to the state in line with the vision of the association to give back to society.

She further recalled the significant role Nigerian women played before and during the struggle for independence, noting that they were passionate, courageous and resilient in advocating social justice, women emancipation and national development.

According to her, International Women’s Day also highlights the urgent need to dismantle religious and cultural barriers, discriminatory laws and social norms that hinder women’s rights and opportunities globally.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” Oviasu emphasised that collective giving remains a pathway to achieving gender equality and societal development.

She added that the association’s decision to establish a renal dialysis and diagnostic centre in Benin City was aimed at reducing the high cost of dialysis services and addressing kidney-related ailments in the state.
