Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected illegal firearm fabricator and recovered locally manufactured guns and equipment used in the production of firearms
The operation was carried out in the early hours of March 6, 2026, at about 0500hrs at Emuhu Community in Ika South local government area of the state by operatives of the Raiders Squad led by the commander, Akanya Agbogha.
During the operation, one Friday Ojei (male, 59 years) was arrested. A search of the premises led to the recovery of four locally fabricated guns.
Also recovered were one welding machine, one drilling machine, one grinding machine and assorted metal pipes suspected to be used in the fabrication of firearms.
SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), confirmed the suspect is currently in custody, while an investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the illegal firearm production network.
“Operatives of the Raiders Squad of the Delta State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, the team raided a suspected firearm manufacturing depot,” he revealed.
In a separate development, a combined patrol team comprising Police operatives of Ovwian-Aladja Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ekundayo Friday, alongside Police Raiders Volunteers, Anti-Cult Volunteers, and Hunters Volunteers, were conducting routine stop-and-search operations along Film Hall Road, Ovwian-Aladja.
During the operation, the patrol team sighted a group of suspected hoodlums who immediately took to flight upon noticing the security operatives.
“The team pursued the suspects, who abandoned a black bag while fleeing. A search of the bag led to the recovery of one locally made short gun.
“The firearm has been secured as an exhibit, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects”, he added.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, has continued to intensify proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations across the state in its sustained effort to combat crime and safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner of Police commended the professionalism and vigilance displayed by the operatives involved in these operations.
