Former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are in panic mode ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the claim while addressing supporters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He said the President and top APC figures were not as popular as they projected and accused the ruling party of attempting to intimidate voters ahead of the polls.
“I thought the President said they were popular, I thought those people you were asking me about were popular.
“All these things that they are doing are panic measures, they are scared. If you’re not scared let us meet on the field, let the people chose who they want to choose.
“What they are doing is they are trying to force people on the people; to force politicians on the people. Now, what ADC provides for you, is an opportunity to choose who the right person is,” Amaechi said.
Speaking on measures the ADC plans to adopt to prevent voter apathy in the 2027 elections, the former Rotimi Amaechi said the coalition party would rely heavily on grassroots mobilisation.
“What are our countermeasures to intimidation, would be dependent on mobilisation, it must bring out the people.
“The reason why they are doing what they are doing is that they want apathy. They don’t want you to come out and vote because if you come out and vote, you’ll certainly not vote for APC.
“Even if you want to vote for APC, the question you’ll ask yourself is what have they done? Okay? The noise was, Lagos-Calabar coastal road? Where is the Lagos-Calabar coastal road?
“I was minister for transport, I can show the evidence of what I have done,” he noted.
Amaechi further listed some of his achievements during his tenure as minister of transportation under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, insisting that Nigerians across regions and political affiliations benefitted from the dividends of governance during the period.
“Let this government show one thing they have done, either in the North or in the South, apart from stealing money,” Amaechi added.
